Research Interest
Until recently Professor Beattie was the Director for the Commonwealth Key Centre for Biodiversity and Bioresources with active research programs in the exploration of invertebrate and microbial diversity. Currently Professor Beattie's main interests are the interactions between arthropods and microorganisms, the role of microbes in the evolution of sociality, invertebrates as biological resources, the relationships between ecology, evolutionary biology and bioprospecting and biodiversity conservation. He also has a long-term interest in the ecology and evolution of interactions between ants and plants. Professor Beattie is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He currently shares the laboratory facilities of his main collaborators, Dr. Adam Stow and Professor Michael Gillings.
