Biography

Andrew T H Tan is Associate Professor, Department of Security Studies and Criminology, Macquarie University. He previously worked at the University of New South Wales, Australia, where he was Associate Professor from 2006-2016. He was also a former Senior Lecturer in Defence Studies at King's College London and was based at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, UK. Andrew holds degrees from the National University of Singapore, the University of Cambridge and Sydney University. Andrew specialises in terrorism, defence studies, insurgencies, and Asian security and international relations, and is consulted by governments, think tanks and academic institutions on security issues. He is also the author or editor of 17 books and over 50 journal and book chapter articles. Amongst his books are: US Strategy Against Global Terrorism (NY: Palgrave), Security Strategies in the Asia-Pacific: The USA's Second front in Southeast Asia (NY: Palgrave), The Global Arms Trade (London: Routledge), East and Southeast Asia: Security Perspectives and International Relations (London: Routledge), Conflict in East Asia (London: Routledge), and The Arms Race in Asia (London: Routledge). His latest book, an edited work, is on US-China Relations (Cheltenham: Edward Elgar, 2016). His 18th book (forthcoming) is on The United States and Asia (Cheltenham: Edward Elgar).
