Australian high school students are more vulnerable than ever to developing anxiety, depression and other emotional disorders. This results from both societal pressure and a lack of understanding of how habitual avoidance of unpleasant feelings and situations can undermine self-confidence. In collaboration with the team from the Centre for Emotional Health, we have developed several engaging programs to prevent this pattern emerging. The tailored programs, some written and implemented with input from teaching staff, are currently underway. These programs include: Insights (an 18 session, teacher-led, social and emotional health program for adolescents) Keep Composed (an 8 session program for adolescents dealing with the anxiety of uncertainty) Chilled Plus (an internet-based anxiety and depression treatment for adolescents) My work experience includes, 19 years as a Clinical Psychologist, Head of the Anxiety Clinic at Westmead Hospital (1996-2002), external developed lecturer in Postgraduate Clinical Psychology at Macquarie University (2007 - 2011), private practitioner (2002 onwards) and Postdoctoral Fellow (2014 to 2016).
