Biography
Garry Falloon is a Profesor of Digital Learning and the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation Chair of Teacher Education in the Department of Educational Studies, having joined Macquarie University in June 2017. Previous to this he was Professor of Digital Learning in the Faculty of Education at Waikato University in Hamilton, New Zealand. Garry's research interests include mobile learning, digital learning in primary and middle schools, online and blended learning, curriculum design, pedagogy and assessment in digitally-supported innovative learning environments, learning in primary science and technology, and educational research methods. He has served on many advisory and writing panels for eLearning policy and curriculum development, industry and sector advisory boards, and the New Zealand Prime Minister's Panel of Experts for Digital Learning. He serves on the Editorial Boards of four international journals in Educational Psychology and Educational Technologies, and is a regular article reviewer for twelve other publications. He is also the recipient of research and teaching awards from the University of Waikato, Microsoft and the New Zealand Government. Garry has held a number of research grants focused on industry/school science partnerships, classroom-based, digitally-supported teaching and learning practices, and computational learning in primary schools. His most recent grants include a two-year investigation of primary students' thinking and problem solving development in Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) flexible learning spaces in the Waikato region of New Zealand. This was funded as part of the government's Teaching and Learning Research Initiative (TLRI). He also led the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment's Unlocking Curious Minds ROBOSHOPS programme for schools. Garry's teaching is in STEM subjects, with specific emphasis on digital technology integration into primary/middle school curriculum, learning task design and thinking skill development, collaborative and cooperative learning, and inquiry/design learning in Science and Technology. He also supervises HDR students in the areas of digital learning, curriculum design and assessment and primary/middle school education. This portal contains a list of selected publications only.
