Biography
I have been teaching in the Department since 2009 having previously studied (BA HONS 1st class 1996, PhD 2003, GradCert ULT 2007) and taught at the University of New South Wales. While at MMCCS I have taught across all levels, from first-year through to postgraduate, in media and cultural theory and history. I am currently supervising research projects investigating: the relationship between writing, walking, place and nation: global heavy metal, whiteness and masculinity; faerie spaces/places; and music video and social media. My current research projects include a comparative analysis of environmentalism and heavy metal music in France, Norway and America. I have been a member of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music since 2005.
Research Interest
Psychogeographic media, space/place, music, politics and identity (especially national identity), and media audiences. These are all areas of potential areas of supervision.
