Biography
Jim Farmer joined the Department as a lecturer in 1991 after several years working in the life insurance industry. He has taught at first, second, third year and Masters levels. His publications have been largely in the life insurance area with an emphasis on recent developments in realistic reporting of profits for life insurance companies. He is the author of the only book on the mathematics behind these realistic reporting techniques, a book which has been used in both undergraduate and professional subjects.

Term insurance, Monte Carlo Markov Chain simulations, Margin on services profit reporting, student progression rates, annuities, surrender value, actuarial websites.
