Biography
A/Prof Atkin a neuroscientist and cell biologist with an international reputation in the field of ALS/MND. Her work involves identification of the major cellular signalling pathways that trigger motor neuron death in ALS/MND, and how these pathways can be modulated. This work aims to develop novel therapeutic strategies for ALS/MND, based on inhibiting the fundamental mechanisms that trigger neurodegeneration in this disorder.
Research Interest
Molecular and cellular mechanisms leading to neurodegeneration in ALS/MND and FTD. Modulation of Endoplasmic Recticulum homeostasis as a novel therapeutic strategy in ALS/MND Structural and functional properties of proteins relevant to ALS/MND
