Biography

Dr Layla Branicki is an interdisciplinary researcher specializing in individual and organizational resilience and the factors that enable people and businesses to cope with high risk work and extreme events. Before joining the Department of Security Studies and Criminology at Macquarie University Layla was a Lecturer at Birmingham Business School and the Resilience Research Fellow at Warwick Business School. Layla has a strong track-record in winning and successfully delivering funded inter-disciplinary research, and was a co-investigator on the first major UK project to examine the existing capacity of organisations, and networks of organisations, to manage emergencies, a co-investigator on the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council funded project 'Game Theory and Adaptive Networks for Smart City Evacuation' and a work stream lead on the Economic and Social Research Council funded project 'The Summer After the Floods'. Layla has published on the topic of resilience in journals such as Academy of Management Discoveries, Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, The International Journal of Human Resource Management, The International Journal of Production Research and The Journal of Homeland Security, and recently produced the co-edited book 'City Evacuations: An Interdisciplinary Approach'. Layla has presented on the topic of resilience throughout the UK, Europe and USA, and has been an invited expert at a wide range of central government events, including at the UK Houses of Parliament.
