Research Interest
Malcolm has an interest in law and religion. This interest commenced in the late seventies and culminated with the completion of a Doctorate from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London University in 1982. The thesis covered the area of Buddhist Law and deployed understandings in legal anthropology to critique the rules of Buddhist monks and the relationship of these rules with the state. Subsequently, Malcolm's interest in religion developed into research on Islamic law and this has been supported by an ARC-funded grant with colleagues from the University of Western Sydney.
