Biography
Sarah Keith's research interests include popular music studies, East Asian popular musics, the Australian music industries, music and cultural policy, music and screen media (including documentary, film, and games), and music technology. Her current research project explores K-pop fandom and multi-cultural understanding in Australia, following a 2016 grant from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Australia-Korea Foundation. She is regional president (Australia) of the international World Association of Hallyu Studies, a multidisciplinary organisation dedicated to furthering the study of Korean popular culture. Sarah's 2016 book "The New Music Industries: Disruption and Discovery" (Palgrave: co-authored with Diane Hughes, Mark Evans, and Guy Morrow) examined the challenges of music careers in the digital age. She is currently supervising PhDs and Masters (research) in the areas of 20th century music and diaspora, technologised music performance, and electronic music production. Sarah has taught in areas including music production, radio production, digital media, and music technology and performance for over a decade. She currently convenes units in music production (MUS202, MUS203) and digital media (MAS110). Her doctoral research (2010) comprised an investigation of technologically-mediated performance, and included a creative component involving the design of an laptop improvisation and performance system using Max/MSP.
