Biography
Dr Shawkat Alam is Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for Environmental Law at Macquarie Law School, Macquarie University. Prof Alam has previously taught in the Law School at Dhaka University and Rajshahi University in Bangladesh. He holds an LLB (Honours) from Rajshahi University, LLM from Dhaka University and PhD from Macquarie University. Dr Alam's primary teaching and research expertise lies in the areas of international law, environmental law, trade law, human rights and sustainable development. His research focuses on the opportunities and challenges faced by developing economies to achieve sustainable development by examining international legal, institutional and policy frameworks.
