Jonathan Kalman

Biography

Professor Kalman is internationally recognized as one of the world leading researchers in the field of heart rhythm disturbances and has been instrumental in describing the mechanism of these arrhythmias and the approach to cure.  Professor Kalman is a highly sought after international speaker; is on the editorial board of 7 major international journals and has over 250 research publications, many in the most highly cited journals in cardiology such as Circulation and The Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Many of these articles are regularly referenced as being seminal to the field of understanding of atrial arrhythmias and methods for their correction. Professor Kalman's influence was acknowledged by his peers with the bestowing of the Eric Susman Prize in 2006, an award by The Royal Australasian College of Physicians for best contribution to the knowledge of any branch of internal medicine. In 2014, Professor Kalman received from the Minister for Health, a National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia Excellence Award as the leading Practitioner Fellow in Australia. Professor Kalman is currently the Scientific Chair of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and also the Scientific Chair of the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society. He is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Physicians, a Fellow of the American College of Cardiologists, and a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society. He is Professor of Medicine at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in Melbourne where he has made his unit a center of clinical, teaching and research excellence in Cardiovascular Electrophysiology. Professor Kalman has trained many of the leading heart rhythm experts in Australia including Professor Prash Sanders (Adelaide), Associate Professor Peter Kistler, Dr. Paul Sparks, Dr. Joe Morton, Professor Andrew McGavigan (Adelaide), Dr. Suresh Singarayar (Sydney), Dr. Geoff Lee, Dr. Kurt Roberts-Thomson (Adelaide), Dr. Haris Haqqani (Brisbane), Dr. Irene Stevenson, Dr. Andrew Teh, Dr. Michael Wong, Dr. Han Ling and Dr. Saurabh Kumar. He has also trained over 15 heart rhythm experts from the United Kingdom and his program is highly sought after internationally.
