Jake Shortt

Biography

Associate Professor Jake Shortt is the Head of Haematology Research at the School of Clinical Sciences and clinical lead at Monash Haematology for leukaemia and myelodysplasia. He is Principal Investigator on a range of clinical trials for myeloid malignancies, conducted through the Monash Haematology clinical trials unit. He is also a Principal Investigator on both NHMRC and Victorian Cancer Agency funded early phase trials in multiple myeloma, conducted in collaboration with the Myeloma Research Group at the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases. Associate Professor Shortt is the recipient of a Victorian Cancer Agency (VCA) clinical research fellowship and both NHMRC and CCV project grant funding. He was the inaugural recipient of the "Eva and Les Erdi" Snowdome Foundation/VCA grant for "New targets in haematological malignancy". His strong translational work in the School of Clinical Sciences in collaboration with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is focused on strategies incorporating epigenetic drugs with immunotherapy in haematological cancers, particularly lymphoma and multiple myeloma. He heads the Blood Cancer Therapeutics laboratory within the Monash Health Translation Precinct, facilitating bench-to-bedside research in order to progress these new treatments into the haematology clinic. In addition to his clinical and research roles, Associate Professor Shortt is an Associate Member of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, the Chair of the Laboratory Sciences Committee of the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group and an examiner for the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. He sits on the steering committees of the Australian TTP registry, the Australian Lymphoma and Related Diseases Registry and the Victorian Epigenetics Group. Associate Professor Shortt is clinical lead at Monash Health for leukaemia and myelodysplasia. He is also the Deputy Unit Head of Laboratory Haematology. He attends the Monash Haematology myeloid disorders clinic and runs a sub-specialty service for patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia. In addition to outpatient clinics, Associate Professor Shortt undertakes inpatient ward service at Monash and Alfred Health, and is Principal Investigator at Monash Health for a range of clinical trials in leukaemia and myelodysplasia.
