Biography
Dr James Sapontis is the head of complex coronary intervention at MonashHeart and is a world-renowned expert in this field. His sub-specialty is in chronic total occlusion angioplasty and he is regularly invited to speak at international conferences and performs live case demonstrations in this area. Before returning to Australia he underwent fellowship training in both the United Kingdom at Kings College Hospital and the United States at the Mid-America Heart Institute, where he was under the tutelage of world experts. He now trains both local and international cardiologists in contemporary interventional practices and equipment use. Being an active opinion leader he has involvement in the development of new technologies and novel techniques in both interventional cardiology and cardiogenic shock. James has a strong research background with publications and manuscripts in his specialty, and heads a number of research projects both with the Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre and other international institutions.
