Michael Franco

Biography

Associate Professor Michael Franco graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2001 before completing his training with the Royal Australian College of Physicians in both specialties of Medical Oncology and Palliative Medicine in 2009. Since then, he has been a Full Time Staff Specialist at Monash Health, with his clinical roles in both Medical Oncology and Palliative Medicine encompassing work at Clayton, Dandenong and Moorabbin campuses. He is now the Head of Medical Oncology Operations and Education. Michael is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Monash University and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Melbourne University and has lectured extensively to undergraduate and postgraduate prevocational and vocational doctors. He holds positions with the Australian Medical Council and is a Board member and the Chair of Accreditation of the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria. He has research interests particularly in the nexus of palliative medicine and oncology; having attracted competitive grants for investigator led studies performed at Monash Health and has been a principal investigator for international research trials in pain and symptom management. Michael is currently a representative on the Australian Lung Cancer Trials Group’s Specialist Advisory Committee.
