Biography
A mechanical engineer by training, Dr Morgan Sangeux decided to study the human body instead of designing aircraft engines. After completing his PhD in biomechanics and biomedical engineering in France in 2006, Dr Sangeux took up the research and development engineer position in the Gait laboratory at The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne and in 2010 became the lead biomedical engineer. Dr Sangeux is in charge of all the technical aspects regarding the conduct of gait analysis. This includes creating models of the human body and developing new medical imaging technique to validate them. In 2013, Dr Sangeux was awarded a Career Development Award from the Murdoch Childrens which allows him to spend 40 per cent of his time on musculoskeletal modelling research. His most current project consists of merging gait analysis data with medical imaging and musculoskeletal modelling to understand how torsional deformities of the femur affect hip and muscle forces.
