Biography
Dr Peter Houweling obtained his PhD in 2009 from the University of Sydney, for describing the genetic cause of Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinoses (NCL; Batten Disease) in two large animal models. He began his Postdoctoral research at the Children's Hospital at Westmead, under the direction of Professor Kathryn North where he studied the role of a-actinin-3 ( ACTN3) in health and disease. Currently, Dr Houweling is a Senior Research Officer at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, where he is continuing to study the molecular and physiological effects of ACTN3.
