Biography
Dr Vincenzo Russo is a biologist by training. He originally worked in Italian academic institutions including the University of Padua and National Cancer Institute, Aviano, Italy, where he specialised in protein biochemistry and molecular biology. Dr Russo then transferred to the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute in Melbourne to undertake a research doctorate in neuroendocrinology and brain growth factors. He became interested in cancer cell biology with a focus on paediatric cancer of the nervous system, including neuroblastoma. Dr Russo is an Honorary Fellow of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne and has provided academic supervision and laboratory training for 40 students. He is also a National Health and Medical Research Council assessor and an examiner for Honours, Master and PhD theses. He serves as a member of editorial boards and reviewer of leading journals in his fields of expertise. Dr Russo holds a Doctor of Biology from the University of Padua (Italy) and a PhD in Medicine from The University of Melbourne.
