Biography
Fiona Cumming career has involved teaching outdoor education, health and physical education in secondary schools in both regional and city settings across Australia for 15 years.She had also lectured at Edith Cowan University and lectured at The University of Melbourne in Health and Physical Education in both Primary and secondary Master of Teaching courses. In addition she held the position of coordinator of the Melbourne University Outdoors Program in the school of education for 6 years. She ran and led outdoor programs across Australia from hiking expeditions in Tasmania and The Victorian High Plains to recreational trips in Central Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia.
Research Interest
Fiona Cumming is interested in outdoor learning as an alternative approach to teaching within the context of the school and community. As a health educator she want to explore how or if these approached can impact students self esteem and wellbeing as well as their role in reengaging disadvataed youth. Fiona Cumming is also interested in pre service teachers subjective understandings of their role of being a physical education teacher and conflicts that may arise once a pre service teacher enters the teaching profession.
