Biography

I am an educator and researcher in the sustainability field, and over the last fourteen years I have worked in a variety of teaching and research capacities across different disciplines and universities with a focus on sustainability with a social and natural justice lens. I have worked within the areas of social science and natural science as well as business management and economics. I am originally from Germany where I completed a Preliminary Certificate in Business at the Free University in Berlin in 1993. After one year of study at Georgia Southern University, I completed my undergraduate studies in management and economics at Edith Cowan University in 1996 and then completed a Masters by research thesis in 1998. My interest in sustainability then led me to an interdisciplinary PhD candidature during which I analysed environmental policy-making in Western Australia based on the national Regional Forest Agreement process with a focus on public participation and the role of science. After graduating from Edith Cowan University in 2004 I held a series of research and teaching positions at Edith Cowan University and Curtin University. I have a research interest in the politics and political economy of sustainable development, environmental politics, corporate social responsibility and social enterprise. I joined the Sustainability Programme and the former Institute for Social Sustainability at Murdoch University in January 2012. I am a co-founder and co-director of the Centre for Responsible Citizenship and Sustainability - a multidisciplinary hub for teaching and research that endeavours to shape new thinking and practice on key aspects of responsible citizenship: responsible governance, ecological citizenship, responsible management, human rights, social justice, sustainable development, social enterprise, volunteering and service learning. I am also a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Corporate Social Responsibility and board member of the Global Corporate Governance Institute.

Research Interest

industry-community relations; corproate social responsibility and corporate governance; sustainable communities; regional sustainability; and politics and political economy of sustainable development.
