Biography
Kim Maund is the Head of Discipline and Lecturer in Construction Management at the University of Newcastle, Australia and was appointed to the position during 2012. Prior to entering academia, Kim attained more than 15 years experience working within the development and construction sector, across various levels of government and the private sector. Within this period she held positions associated with the professions of Building Surveying and Certification, Programme Management and Strategic Planning. Within the private sector she worked with one of the most prominent Building Certification firms in Australia, holding Accreditation in both Building Surveying and Subdivision across NSW and Qld. The project focus of the Company was steered towards large scale, complex commercial, industry and infrastructure projects including rail networks, mine developments, hospitals, industrial operations, aged care facilities, schools and multi-storey commercial developments. Under the Commonwealth $42 billion ‘Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan’, Kim was seconded to the position of Programme Manager with Housing NSW to work on social housing projects primarily within the Hunter Region. The project parameters were extreme: $7 million NSW allocated budget (education, social housing and infrastructure) with works completed within 2 years. Kim continues to maintain strong industry links and holds National (Unrestricted) Accreditation as a Building Surveyor and Membership with the Australian Institute of Building Surveying. She is the former Vice President of the Australian Institute of Building Surveying: Hunter Region Branch. Kim is also a Member of the Society for Fire Safety, a Technical Society of Engineers Australia. In addition, Kim is on the Accreditation and Disciplinary Committees for the Building Professionals Board, the NSW State Government agency responsible for accreditation and disciplinary matters for Certifiers. Her industry links have led to the development of industry partnerships and collaborative programmes. For example, Kim developed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tasmanian Polytechnic enabling their Advanced Diploma students to articulate into the University of Newcastle Bachelor of Construction Management degree. She also established a State government work experience programme for construction management students. Whereby, successful applicants work within an Assets Management Division looking at a range of construction management areas from contracts, maintenance, new build and project planning.
