Biography
After completion of my PhD I joined the Advanced Water Management Centre (AWMC) at the University of Queensland in 2009. In there I had the opportunity to work with a world leading expert in the field of Bio-electrochemical Systems Prof. Korneel Rabaey. I was actively involved in different projects for wastewater treatment. They included: microbial fuel cells (MFC) for generation of electricity (1 amp) and recovery of by-products such as sodium hydroxide from brewery wastewater, granulation for nutrient removal from abattoir wastewater and fermentation for the recovery of volatile fatty acids from dairy industry wastewater. I joined Prof. Ravi Naidu’s group in the Centre for Environmental Risk Assessment and Remediation (CERAR) at the University of South Australia in 2010 as a Research Assistant and worked on a number of CRC CARE projects. I have developed a novel composite material for the removal of organic contaminants including Trichloroethylene (TCE) and petroleum hydrocarbons (PH). In 2011 I was promoted to Research Associate and continue my research on development of organoclays for removal of contaminants and remediation of the environment in the new Global Centre for Environmental Remediation at UoN.
