Biography

 Dr. Lina Pugliano is a professionally trained clinical researcher and medical oncologist currently specializing in treating patients with breast cancer in North Sydney, Mater Hospital. She received her medical degree in 2003 from the University of Sydney, Australia and then went on to complete her training at the prestigious Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She has completed a clinical fellowship in breast cancer from Institute Jules Bordet under world leaders in the field of breast cancer, furthering her knowledge and expertise. She knows that there is growing evidence to support maintaining a healthy body composition to minimize the risk of breast cancer and also post a breast cancer diagnosis to reduce cancer recurrence. There is also substantial evidence to support exercise as a mechanism for reducing breast cancer recurrence. Lina kicked off Sydney Breast Cancer Bootcamp because she herself exercises daily and knows the positive effects daily exercise has on an individual’s health and living condition. Furthermore she has witnessed the severe de-conditioning and reduction in quality of life that comes with breast cancer treatments in her patients. She recognizes that exercise with strength and cardiovascular training as part of a comprehensive medical treatment plan, are important parts of recovery from breast cancer therapies and may have a crucial role in improving both quality of life and breast cancer outcomes.

Research Interest

 Lina’s main research interest is the interaction between obesity, body composition and breast cancer.
