Biography

Michael holds a joint appointment as Director of Pharmacy at Alfred Health and Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, Centre for Medicine Use and Safety, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences of Monash University.His career has focused in the acute healthcare sector and has spanned special clinical roles in oncology through to senior leadership positions within health services. Michael contributes to many National and local professional Committees and working parties related to improving the delivery of quality heath care services. This has included contributions to a range of International, Commonwealth and State forums focusing on issues including hospital and pharmaceutical services, policy and medication management improvements He has been actively involved in a range of research activities from practice based undergraduate projects through to competitively funded NHMRC and ARC collaborative initiatives and post graduate programs. He has extensive clinical experience in oncol Professor Michael Dooley graduated from Monash University Pharmacy Faculty in 1986 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy. He completed his internship at Box Hill Hospital in Melbourne and became registered as a pharmacist in 1987. He worked primarily in cardiology and oncology initially and completed a Graduate Diploma in Hospital Pharmacy before becoming a senior oncology pharmacist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He was appointed Director of Pharmacy in 1998 and Senior Lecturer within the Department of Pharmacy Practice of Monash University. He undertook research into medicine use in oncology which became the focus of his PhD. In 2005 he became the Director of Pharmacy at Alfred Health in Melbourne and the inaugural Chair of Clinical Pharmacy of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences of Monash University. He co-founded the Centre for Medicine Use and Safety (CMUS) of Monash University which has a hub at the Alfred Hospital. CMUS has become the focus of substantial therapeutic and practice research initiatives within the Faculty. Based at the Parkville campus and the pharmacy department of The Alfred hospital, CMUS integrates academic and applied research to address medicine use and safety issues in the home, community, hospitals, residential aged-care facilities and their interfaces.
