Biography
Professor David Hayward was Dean of the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies between 2009 and 2016.Since August 2009, David has been Dean of the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies. Between 2007 and 2013 he was a member of the Board of Directors of Melbourne Health, the second largest health service in Australia incorporating the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is a life member of the Victorian Council of Social Service, in recognition of 3 decades of policy advice, education and training for the Victorian not-for-profit sector. In 2015 he was an invited member of the expert panel appointed to review the University of Western Australia's undergraduate degrees. In the same year he was invited by the Victorian Council of Social Service to become a seconded member of its governing board. In 2016 he was appointed to the Panel of Experts for the Hong Kong Council of Vocational and Higher Education Qualifications. His research interest is the funding of social policy in the Australian federation, with recent publications on performance budgeting and the National Disability Insurance Scheme. He writes regularly for The Conversation. In 2014 David was elected Chair of the RMIT Academic Board, and was re-elected unopposed for 2015 and 2016. The role brings with it a position on University Council. He is also a member of Council's Infrastructure and Information Technology Committee.
