Biography
"Dr Crystal Legacy is a Vice Chancellor's Research Fellow (January 2014 - December 2016) and Australian Research Council Fellow (DECRA) (July 2014 - July 2017). My current project is titled Planning in a state of panic: Did the economic crisis transform city making practices for the long term? This three-year Australian Research Council funded project investigates the tensions existing between urban transport planning in periods of economic uncertainty and community interests in cities in Australia and Canada. The focus of this research is on contentious urban transport projects and proposals in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra (Australia) as well as Vancouver and the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (Canada). The research focuses on how different points of conflict are negotiated, and with what impact to the project, the process and to the city. My work in theoretically and conceptually informed by critical urban studies and political theory, and delves deeply into questions about the political and democratic dimensions of urban and transport planning.
