Biography

"Julia Werner is a lecturer in the Landscape Architecture program at RMIT.Julia is originally from Germany and taught and researched at the Faculty for Architecture and Landscape Science at the Leibniz University of Hanover, Germany from 2001 to 2009. She also holds a degree as Diplom-Ingenieur (equivalent to a Master degree) in Landscape Architecture and Planning from Leibniz. Together with Professor Dr Hille von Seggern, Julia is the co-founder of STUDIO URBANE LANDSCHAFTEN (2005), a multi-disciplinary laboratory and network for design research, teaching and practice with over 25 members, which is attached to the Leibniz University of Hanover. Within the STUDIO she worked on the creation of an innovative landscape design research-led teaching concept and played a decisive role in developing the contemporary, interdisciplinary design approach 'Creating Knowledge. Innovation Strategies for Designing Urban Landscapes', edited and published in 2008 and to be republished as an e-book in 2014 (Berlin: Jovis). With several STUDIO teams Julia worked on practice-based design research projects of urban (water) landscapes and public spaces, in Germany and internationally. She has published this work extensively in book chapters and journal articles."
