Biography

 ·         Dr Salleh Ibrahim is a general surgeon practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. He specialises in liver, pancreas and gallbladder surgery, abdominal cancer surgery, liver transplant, minimally invasive surgery and gastrointestinal endoscopy. ·         Dr Salleh graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) medical school in 1995. He started his basic surgical training in Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and obtained his fellowship from the Royal Colleges of England and Scotland in 1999. ·         He did his advanced surgical training at Changi General Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He obtained a Young Surgeon Award and wrote several publications during this time. He was instrumental in creating a programme for safe training in laparoscopic cholecystectomy, a procedure he has done more than 1000 times. He was promoted to Consultant in 2003 and went on to further training overseas. ·         Dr Salleh trained in the world-renowned Chang Gung Memorial Hospital under Prof Chen Chao Long who was the first man to perform a liver transplant in Asia. The centre has performed more than 1000 transplants and countless liver resections, and is considered the largest centre for liver diseases in the world. ·         Dr Salleh had a training stint a in Japan under several famous professors, where he improved on his surgical and research skills. It was during this time that he wrote a landmark paper on the safety of donor hepactectomy from the perspective of remnant liver volume. That paper won him several awards, including awards from the Taiwan and Japanese surgical associations. He also used this time to improve his skill in minimally invasive surgery by visiting several European centres. ·         Dr Salleh is also a trained endoscopist, whose repertoire includes endoscopic retrograde pancreaticogram. He is a trained pancreas surgeon and wrote a publication on a unique way of joining the pancreas to the small intestine after a cancer resection, a method that could provide the safest and best results for patients. ·         Upon his return to Singapore, Dr Salleh set up the hepatopancreatic biliary unit and the liver transplant evaluation unit at Eastern Health Alliance. He was given the Outstanding Long Public Service award in 2008 for his contribution to the public sector and in training the younger generation of surgeons. ·         He spent the last several years in Gleneagles Hospital, further expanding his experience in liver transplant and liver surgery. He has also been invited as key note speaker to several conferences in the region. ·         Dr Salleh sits on the board of several charity organisations. He is a clinical tutor at the National University of Singapore (NUS) medical school and a visiting consultant surgeon to Eastern Health Alliance.
