Biography
Dr. Bianco, obtained his Medical Doctor degree from the Universidad Central of Venezuela (UCV). He did his residency in Urology at Wayne State University (Detroit, MI). He specialized in Urologic Oncology and Laparoscopy/Robotic Surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center -MSKCC- (New York, NY). During his tenure at MSKCC he served as Scholar for Prostate Cancer Outcomes for the American Urological Association Foundation (2003-05). In addition, he was the Koch and Albittron Foundations Scholar for Prostate Cancer Research (2005-2006). Prior to joining Columbia University as an Academic Scholar, Dr. Bianco served as the Head of Urology Oncology at the Department of Urology of The George Washington University, Washington DC (2006-2008). As a Columbia University Faculty Member, Dr. Bianco moved to Miami to found the Columbia University Division of Urology at Mount Sinai Medical Center (Miami Beach, FL). He founded the Robotic Surgery Program at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Bianco co-founded the Robotic Surgery program at Doctors Hospital (Coral Gables, FL). Dr. has been a pioneer in Urological Robotic Procedures for cancer patients and also in complex robotic reconstructive procedures. He has numerous research interests and run several clinical trials as Director of the Urological Research Network (Miami, FL) Dr. Bianco’s contributions to the field have been highlighted by the urological community: he was awarded by the American Urological Association, Society of Urological Oncology and American Society of Clinical Oncology. He serves on the review panel and editorial board of numerous publications, including the Journal of Urology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Urology, Cancer, Lancet Oncology and European Urology – where he was member of the editorial board-at large during 2008. To date, Dr. Bianco has published over 80 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has written over 30 chapters and reviews. Dr. Bianco is a member of American Urology Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology; and is the representative to the American Joint Commission for Cancer (AJCC, Chicago, IL) of the Society of Urologic Oncology
