Research Interest

Sam’s research focuses on the fundamentals of architectural design theory, on the way designs are conceived and buildings are constructed to enhance their occupants’ well-being. Key areas of interest include architectural representation, and the relationship between buildings and the human body. This builds on his earlier research in the field of the history, theory, practice and pedagogy of architectural construction. In 2015 he published a book in which he explored the relationship between the theory, drawings and buildings of the remarkable architectural teacher, theorist and architect, Marco Frascari.
