Franz Grieser

Biography

  Franz was awarded a PhD in Physical Chemistry from The University of Melbourne in 1977 in the field of radiation chemistry. He is a Professor of Chemistry at The University of Melbourne, a former Associate Dean of Research and Industry in the Faculty of Science (2001-2009), Deputy Director of the ARC Special Research Centre, Particulate Fluids Processing Centre and the Program Leader of its Liquid-Liquid Systems research activities. He has held visiting appointments at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, the Hahn-Meitner Institute, Berlin, The Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, The University of Illinois, Urbana, the CSIRO Division of Molecular Science, Clayton, the University of Washington, Seattle and the University of Leeds, UK. He was on the Advisory Board for the Journal of Colloid and Interface Science from 2000 to 2003 and is currently an editor of Colloids and Surfaces A. His research interests are in the area of colloid and surface chemistry, interfacial reaction dynamics and sonochemistry. He has published over 300 refereed papers in international journals, and has also supervised some 50 PhD students. His research activities have been recognised through the award of an ARC Queen Elizabeth II Fellowship, the Grimwade Prize in Industrial Chemistry from The University of Melbourne, the H.G. Smith Memorial Medal from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, and an honorary Doctor of Philosophy from Uppsala University, Sweden in 2001. In 2005 he was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. Currently he is an ARC Professorial Research Fellow.
