Andrew White

Biography

Professor Andrew White joined The University of Queensland in 1999, establishing the Quantum Technology Laboratory. Professor White has built an international reputation through his work in quantum physics. His characterisation of a quantum logic gate, the fundamental building block of a quantum computer, has set the standard in the field. Over the years, Professor White has conducted research on various topics including shrimp eyes, nuclear physics, optical vortices, and quantum computers. His current research aims to explore and exploit the full range of quantum behaviours — notably entanglement — with an eye to engineering new technologies and scientific applications. His research has been published extensively in numerous high-profile journals such as Nature Communications, Science, Physical Review Letters, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and New Journal of Physics. Professor White is the Deputy Director at the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQuS) and Program Manager at the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computing and Communication Technology (CQC2T). He is the Vice Chancellor's Senior Research Fellow at The University of Queensland, and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, and was previously an Australian Research Council Federation Fellow.

Research in the Quantum Technology Laboratory is aimed at exploring and exploiting the full range of quantum behaviours—notably entanglement—with an eye to engineering new technologies and scientific applications.
