Biography
Professor Brian Maguire holds an appointment at the School of Health, Medical and Applied Sciences in Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Qld. Australia. He has a doctoral degree in public health from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and a master's degree in health administration from Central Michigan University. He is a 2009 Senior Fulbright Scholar and has presented his research in nine countries. His dozens of publications, including articles and book chapters in the areas of epidemiology, emergency medical systems, policy, management, education, public health and emergency management, have been cited over 800 times. Professor Maguire’s responsibilities at Central Queensland University (CQU) include being Chair of the Professoriate and a member of the Vice Chancellor’s Advisory Committee. Since 2011, he has been the Chair of the Network of Australasian Paramedic Academics (NAPA). In 2016, he was appointed to the Australian national Paramedics Registration Reference Group. Professor Maguire's past academic positions include: Professor, Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, NSW, Australia, where he helped lead the transition to distance education; Clinical Associate Professor, Graduate Program Director and Research Center Director, Department of Emergency Health Services, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he led the department’s master’s degree program and research center; and, Assistant Professor, The George Washington University, Washington, DC, where he developed one of the first undergraduate distance education programs in health administration in the United States.
