2010- CQUniversity PhD Post Graduate Research Project -’Tis All A Chequerboard: Early ABC Documentary Filmmakers Tell Their Stories. Summary: The thesis explored for the first time, the working lives of four early Australian Broadcasting Commission (later, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation) documentary filmmakers and told their stories from their perspective. It revealed their dedication to their filmmaking, and their innovative, creative, and technical contributions to the ABC’s social documentary history and to the cinema verite/direct cinema genre. This thesis also revealed evidence of radicalism in ABC social documentary.
