Biography
Matthew is a NHMRC Early Career Fellow (Clinical) who conducts research on impulsivity and substance use. His research focuses on the cognitive and neuropsychological mechanisms that convey risk for substance abuse and how they can best be targeted in treatment. Matthew is a clinical psychologist and maintains part-time clinical practice at the Alcohol and Drug Assessment Unit, Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Research Interest
Addiction and substance abuse; Cognitive and neuropsychological mechanisms of risk in impulse-control problems; Mechanisms of change in psychotherapy (e.g., coping strategies, self-efficacy); The role of personality/temperament in the aetiology and treatment of psychological disorders; and Adolescence as a developmental period of risk
