Biography
Scott grew up on a cattle property, has degrees in international business and Asian studies, a PhD in agricultural economics, and speaks fluent Chinese. At UQ, Scott has conducted 20 collaborative projects on ruminant livestock in developing Asian countries, including China, Indonesia, Timor Leste and Vanuatu. As a livestock economist, Scott's role in projects is to investigate ways to improve farm incomes, value chain functioning and rural development outcomes. The research approach is highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary, fieldwork-intensive and applied. He also co-leads a research program on cattle and beef markets and trade in China, Southeast Asia and Australia. Scott has published nine scholarly books, more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and numerous industry reports.
