Biography
Margaret McAllister is Professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Sciences at CQUniversity Australia. She has degrees in nursing, arts and education. Her research and teaching foci include: solution focused nursing, resilience, nursing education and inter-professional learning. She has co-authored seven books, including four textbooks: The clinical helper for mental health nursing practice (2013), Stories in mental health (2013), The resilient nurse (2011) and Solution focused nursing (2007) and 155 journal articles. She is the recipient of five awards for excellence in teaching, including in 2010 a national citation for outstanding contributions to nursing education. She has completed terms as Associate Editor for the UK journal, Nurse Education in Practice (2012-14), board director for Australia’s peak body for mental health nurses, the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (2012-14), and is pursuing a program of cross disciplinary research between nursing and the humanities, on the issue of humanising the health workforce. She currently supervises nine research students, teaches two courses: “The transformative power of stories in mental health”, and “Mental health promotion for mental health nurses”, and is leading a multi-partner research project on young peoples’ resilience funded by the Queensland Government.
