Clara Chow

Biography

Dr. Clara Chow is Professor at Sydney Medical School, Westmead. She is Director of the Cardiovacular Division at The George Institute for Global Health and Program Director Community Based Cardiac Services and Cardiologist at Westmead hospital. She is appointed as the CPC (Charles Perkins Centre) Westmead Academic Co-director. Currently she is secretary of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and Co-chair of the Secondary Prevention Alliance in Australia.She has a PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia in cardiovascular epidemiology and international public Health and a Postdoc from McMaster University, Canada in clinical trials and cardiac imaging. She is a NHMRC / National Heart Foundation Career Development Fellow and a Sydney Medical School Foundation Chapman Fellow. Her principal clinical interests are in cardiac imaging particularly cardiac CT and echo. The main focus of her research is in simple and scalable approaches to cardiovascular disease prevention. Research Interest

Dr Clara Chow’s principal research interests are in cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention both in Australia and globally. She is particulalry interested in frugal innovation with clinical and public health approaches. She leads a number of studies in Australia and overseas that extend from observational studies of cardiovascular disease determinants to clinical trials of simple interventions to prevent cardiovascular disease. She has an active and growing program in E-health, particulalry M-health. She has worked in CVD prevention in low-income countries, particulalry India. She also has an interest in improving the management of those at high risk of CVD e.g. in Cardiovascular disease secondary prevention, patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery and populations with a family history of premature coronary disease.
