Biography
Associate Professor Glen Reid is the Senior Scientist at the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute (ADRI), situated at Sydney Medical School's Concord campus. After being appointed ADRI?s Senior Research Scientist in April 2009, he established the Institute?s cell and molecular biology labs. His research focuses on the identification of new markers and molecular targets for malignant mesothelioma, with a particular focus on microRNAs. He currently holds grants from the Cancer Institute NSW, Cancer Council NSW and the Dust Diseases Authority.
Research Interest
As Senior Research Scientist at the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute I lead research focused on translational studies of malignant pleural mesothelioma, an asbestos-related cancer for which Australia has one of the world's highest incidence rates. My research aims to identify new molecular biomarkers and novel therapeutic targets for this disease. Our current focus on the role of microRNAs in mesothelioma biology has identified biomarkers in tumours and in the circulation, as well as microRNAs that represent therapeutic targets and which we are testing in a first-in-man clinical trial of microRNA replacement for thoracic cancer.
