Biography
Leigh Delbridge is Professor and Head of Surgery at The University of Sydney. He is a graduate of the University of Sydney having obtained a BScMed (Hons I) in 1972 and an MBBS (Hons I) in 1975. After completing his surgical training at Royal North Shore Hospital and a research fellowship at The Middlesex Hospital in London, he joined the Discipline of Surgery at the University of Sydney as a Lecturer in 1984. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1989, and Professor of Surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital in 1994. He is currently the President of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES), Council Member of the Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AsAES) and Founding Council Member and Scientific Coordinator for Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons (AES). He heads the University of Sydney Endocrine Surgical Unit which is the largest endocrine surgical service in Australia. His clinical practice is confined to thyroid and parathyroid surgery and he personally performs over endocrine 500 cases each year.
Research Interest
His research interests include the epidemiology of thyroid and parathyroid cancer and the development of minimally invasive endocrine surgical techniques. He has over 300 peer-reviewed journal articles on endocrine surgical topics.
