Melanie Lovell

Biography

 Associate Professor Lovell is a Palliative Medicine physician with HammondCare at Greenwich Hospital and Director of the Palliative Care Service at the Mater in Sydney. In 2010 she was Chair of the Cancer Pain and Palliative Care working group for the National Pain Summit. She is the Clinical Lead for a team to implement evidence-based strategies in cancer pain management. She chairs the Working Party which developed and updates the Australian Cancer Pain Guideline on the Cancer Council Australia wiki platform. She is lead investigator on a National Breast Cancer Foundation cluster randomised controlled trial of implementation strategies for the Australian Cancer Pain Guideline. She is involved in teaching medical students palliative care, cancer pain assessment and management and spirituality. She is associate supervisor for PhD students. She is Co-lead of the Supportive Care Pillar for Sydney Vital, and investigator with state (ImPaCCT) and national (PaCCSC) Palliative Care trials groups.

Research Interest

 Dr Lovell is interested in palliative care, palliative care research including clinical trials and health systems research, pain research and spirituality.
