Biography
Simon Skalicky FRANZCO, MPhil, MMed, MBBS, BSc (Med) is a consultant Ophthalmologist and clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney. Simon graduated from the University of New South Wales medical school with 1stClass Honours. He completed Ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital and Addenbrooke’s Hospital (University of Cambridge UK), where he undertook further subspecialty training in Glaucoma and Cataract. Simon’s subspecialty and research interests are in Glaucoma and Cataract. He is strongly involved in Quality of Life research in Glaucoma, the subject of his Masters of Philosophy (University of Sydney). He is furthering his studies in this field as part of a PhD in collaboration with world-leaders in Ophthalmology research from the University of Cambridge, University of Melbourne and University of Sydney. Simon also has research interests in Dry Eye Disease. At Addenbrooke’s Hospital (Cambridge University) Simon established site participation in two multinational clinical trials evaluating novel therapies for Glaucoma. Simon is an Expert Advisory Panel member for Glaucoma Australia. He is a course co-ordinator for the Ocular Physiology component of the University of Sydney Masters of Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) course. He is actively involved in the training of medical students, registrars and fellows in Glaucoma and Cataract surgery, and has organized teaching events and conferences for registrars across Australia and New Zealand. He is a reviewer for the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology, Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, the US Ophthalmic Review and BMJ Ophthalmology. Dr Skalicky is a Visiting Medical Officer at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital and consults patients privately at his practice in Caulfield, Melbourne.
