Biography
Rob Ferguson Independent Consumer Representative Director Rob, what does your everyday work entail? I have retired, however following the death of my wife in December, 2013 from ovarian cancer, I became involved with Consumer Advocacy for cancer patients, carers and families. I now spend two days a week as a Consumer Representative at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, visiting cancer patients, and gaining feedback on issues, which I provide to hospital administrators. I am also invited with other members of a Consumer Advisory Committee to provide consumer input to hospital publications and processes through different committees. I am also a member of Macquarie University Cancer Research Advisory Group, which provides consumer feedback to researchers seeking funding for their cancer related projects. What's been the highlight of your working career so far? The highlight of my interest in representing consumers of cancer treatment has been my appointment to the board of TROG as Independent Consumer Representative Director. Before that I believe I achieved a lot in the field of Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle wasting disease. Before retiring in 2014, I was President of Muscular Dystrophy NSW for 4 years and Chair of Muscular Dystrophy Foundation Australia for 3 years. Over 13 years at board level I was instrumental in providing vastly improved services to those with Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases, throughout NSW and Australia.
