Biography
Michael is a former investment banker with a successful track record in corporate finance. He started his career on Wall Street in Institutional Sales for Arnhold & S. Bleichroeder, a 200 year-old family-controlled investment bank in New York City, where he was the top producer generating business with New York and California hedge funds. He later joined the international corporate finance group as Managing Director of International Corporate Finance, a post he held until 1999. At Bleichroeder, he was consistently the top producing broker and then banker covering “smart money†hedge funds in New York, London, Milan and California. In the course of Michael’s 40 years in the investment banking industry, he completed numerous transactions in public, private equity and PIPE offerings, raising over a billion dollars of equity capital, much for early stage NASDAQ companies which he subsequently chaired. His practice included cross-border M&A, valuations and fairness opinions. In 1999, he formed and capitalized Doherty and Company, LLC a NASD/FINRA registered investment bank in Santa Monica, California. He was chairman of seven public, six private, and numerous on and offshore GPs in technology, entertainment, shipping, life sciences, and public REITs. After over 30 years on Wall Street, Michael took time off to pursue academic and literary interests as an aspiring writer in Western Massachusetts. He serves on the boards of numerous charities and is Assistant Curator of the Archibald MacLeish Library and Collection, and is the founder of the Archibald MacLeish Literary Society. He has been an avid alpinist and touring cyclist for over 40 years.
