Biography
Mr. van Doorn is a mining engineer with over 40 years of experience in mining and mining finance and has been a director of Romarco Minerals Ltd. until its acquisition by OceanaGold Corp. for approximately C$856 million in 2015. During his time at Romarco, Romarco advanced the Haile Gold project in South Carolina from exploration stage to a shovel-ready open-pit gold mine with an expected output of over 500,000 ounces of gold production in 2017. Prior to that, Mr. van Doorn has been Executive Vice President of Business Development for Rio Narcea Gold Mines S.L. (a public company with projects in Spain and Mauritania) where Mr. van Doorn was instrumental in the acquisition of the Tasiast project in Mauritania (now a producing mine owned by Kinross). Mr. van Doorn has also been a Senior Mining Analyst at Loewen, Ondaatje, McCutcheon, a Global Gold Analyst at Morgan Stanley and a Business Development Manager at Royal Dutch Shell. Mr. Van Doorn’s achievements include investment recommendations and financing of successful exploration companies such as Great Basin Gold, Pangea Minerals Ltd., Platexco Inc., Argentina Gold and Arequipa, whose discoveries have been developed into major mines. As the chairman of the board of TriMetals, Mr. van Doorn is determined to ensure that TriMetals’ Goldsprings project follows the same successful path. Mr. van Doorn was recently Chairman, President & CEO of Mundoro Mining Inc. (now Mundoro Capital) and Executive Vice President of Golden China Resources Corporation (a joint venture with Kingsway Capital, a Hong Kong merchant bank, involved in Chinese mining investments). Mr. van Doorn is currently a director of Cardero Resources and was previously a director of Leydenburg Platinum, Hana Mining and Golden China.
