David Holmes

Biography

David Holmes is a Principal Environmental Consultant at Umwelt with particular expertise in environmental impact assessment, environmental policy and environmental and natural resource regulatory systems. David has strong technical skills in environmental impact assessment and has a strong understanding of ecology, subsidence, groundwater, surface water, noise, air quality and disturbed land rehabilitation issues. David’s role in the administration of mining, environmental, planning and OH&S law from a regulator’s perspective, coupled with his years in advising the private sector on industrial, commercial and residential development, mining and extractive industry projects, and his natural resource management training and experience gives him a unique set of skills in the environmental management and impact assessment field. David worked as a solicitor for over 10 years advising both the private sector and NSW Government on planning, environmental, mining, native title, occupational health and safety and compulsory acquisition law. Since joining Umwelt in 2010, David has project managed the preparation of the environment impact statement and post approval processes for the Bulga Optimisation Project, a 200 Mt extension to the Bulga Surface Operations, the post lodgement processes for the Mount Owen Continued Operations Project and is currently managing the environmental assessment process for the Manildra Group's proposed Invincible Southern Extension Project. David has prepared environmental and approval constraints reports for more than five open cut and underground mining proposals. He has also undertaken numerous other environmental assessment projects for exploration, mining, extractive industry and other industrial projects. David has provided strategic advice to the NSW Government and industry bodies on various environmental issues.
