Biography
I received my Msc and PhD in Electronic Engineering (Magna Cum Laude) by the University Rovira i Virgili (URV – Spain) in 2011. After a short (2011-2012) post-doctoral research position in the Department of Electronic Engineering (URV), I undertook a post-doctoral research position (Level A) associated with an ARC Discovery Project in the School of Chemical Engineering at The University of Adelaide in January 2012. I was awarded with an ARC DECRA Fellowship (commencing 2014) and appointed to Level B in January 2014. In January 2016, I was promoted to Level C by the Faculty of Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics (ECMS) in recognition of my outstanding performance as an early career researcher. I have carried out intensive research activity in the field of nanophotonics, optical biosensing systems and drug delivery with 4 books, 5 book chapters, 65 journal articles, 44 conferences, 5 journal covers and 1 industrial patent, 1028 cites and h-index 20. Furthermore, I have a 100% success rate in ARC grant applications as a chief investigator (CI), with one DECRA (DE14010054, leading CI) and two LIEF grants (LE150100187 and LE150100040, contributing CI), with $1.1M external funding. During these years, I have also undertaken a significant load of leadership, mentorship and supervision responsibilities with 7 PhD students as principal supervisor and co-supervisor (3 completed, 1 submission and 3 in progress), with 3 Dean's Commendations for Academic Excellence and 2 The University of Adelaide Medals. I have also undertaken significant administration duties, such as maintenance of three research laboratories, including the day-to-day management, work coordination, safety matters and acquisition, installation and maintenance of equipment.
