Biography
First of all I am proudly a Registered Nurse/Midwife. I hold a Research Masters in Nursing Studies. My thesis was on transformational leadership in nursing. A Master of Public Management complements this. My knowledge and skills have enabled me to enjoy a rich and varied career in health. I have a broad range of multidisciplinary experiences having worked across the nursing, medical and more recently the dental and aged care sectors. I have subsequently worked in the fields of clinical education, health workforce planning, service planning and project management at state and national levels. Current Research I am currently a PhD candidate with the School of Nursing. My research interest involves knowledge translation and builds on my previous work with SA Dental Service which produced a highly successful evidence-based Better Oral Health in Residential Care Model (2007-2009). Funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing under the Encouraging Best Practice in Residential Aged Care (EBPAC) Initiative, the model promoted a multidisciplinary team approach with GPs, registered nurses, care workers and dental professionals sharing responsibility of key oral health processes: oral health assessment, oral health care planning, daily oral hygiene and dental treatment. This was supported by the development of a suite of resource portfolios and an education and training program. These resources have attracted national and international interest. In 2010, they were implemented as part of the Australia’s first Nursing Home Oral and Dental Health Plan.
