Biography
As an Education Specialist, my research interests focus on best practice in engineering education. I am the Chief Investigator for an Australian Government Department of Education and Traning grant focusing on the development of resources which use adapted industry management system processes as learning and teaching tools. I also have an interest in the value of research based education and student partnerships for enhanced learning. My discipline specific research focused on defining the concept of Sustainability as it pertains to engineering. Particularly, seeing sustainability as a characteristic of a system where resources need to be managed over time: including seeing infrastructure as a resource. Traditionally, projects have been assessed on technical and economic criteria. While it is recognised that many projects are also assessed on environmental criteria there remains challenges, with the available analytical tools, to combine the various assessments into a genuine 'sustainability assessment'.
