Biography
Dr Carol Davy is a senior research fellow at Wardliparingga Aboriginal Research Unit and a named investigator on the Centre of Research Excellence in Aboriginal Chronic Disease Knowledge Translation and Exchange. She has over 15 years research experience focusing on developing best practice service delivery models, strengthening the skills of service providers to utilise this research within their organisation, and translating evidence into both policy and practice settings. Currently, Carol is collaborating with representatives from Aboriginal Community Controlled and mainstream aged care services in order to identify strategies to improve the appropriateness of services for older Aboriginal peoples. Carol is also leading a team of Aboriginal researchers in the development of a Best Practice Service Delivery Framework for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations. This framework, aims to describe the unique characteristics of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and identify what defines best practice for each of those characteristics. Carol’s interest in the development of culturally safe service delivery models stems from her interest on developing and implementing strength based approaches to improve health outcomes. As a named Investigator on the Kanyini Vascular Collaboration, Carol led a research team in the development of the Wellbeing Framework. This Framework is now being used to inform State chronic disease policies as well as service delivery in Aboriginal and mainstream primary healthcare services. In 2015 Carol was awarded an Australia New Zealand Health Policy Fellowship which focused on the research translation to not only practice but also policy settings and included meetings with senior Commonwealth and State policy makers and advisers. As further evidence of Carol’s strong commitment to ensuring research evidence is translated in policy and practice, Carol is a founding member of the Reducing the Gap between Research, Policy and Practice Initiative.
